Baroda U-23 girls shine in national cricket tourney
The Under 23 women's team that has won league matches in the national tournament
Vadodara: If there is one team that Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) is looking up to for winning a national tourney, it is the women’s under-23 team. This young team of girls has made a record of sorts by winning all the six matches in the league stage of National U-23 Women’s T20 cricket tournament this season. Baroda’s U-23 team has topped the league group and entered the super league.“The girls have put up a fantastic performance this season. The entire team has played as a unit and put a good show. We have won all the six matches by beating the best of the teams,” said Bobby Badola, who joined as the team’s coach earlier this month. Baroda girls beat Goa, Meghalaya, Manipur, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab in the league stage at Cochin.
“The team now being led by Yastika Bhatia is very good and our batting, bowling and fielding department did very well. The girls are confident of performing well in the super league stage too,” Badola told TOI. The super league matches are being played in Rajasthan and Baroda girls will play their first match against Jharkhand in Jaipur on Monday. The team will then take on Mumbai, Gujarat and Railways. Baroda, though, will miss services of its skipper Radha Yadav, who has been called for national duty for T20 internationals against New Zealand
A BCA official said, “Bringing in a young and level-headed coach like Bobby has boosted the team’s morale and brought out the best in the girls picked up by the selectors. The girls have a real chance of going past super league stage this time.”
