Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been dropped from the ongoing third One Day International (ODI) match of the five-match series against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury.

The third ODI between India and New Zealand is being played at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik has replaced MS Dhoni as the wicket-keeper in Team India in the third ODI.

Interestingly, this is also the only third time in Dhoni’s career that he is missing out a match with an injury. The last time, when Dhoni was not included in Team India’s playing XI due to injury, was in 2013. Dhoni had then missed three ODIs due to a hamstring injury in a tri-series in the West Indies.

The first time when the Ranchi wicket-keeper batsman missed out was 12 years ago when Dhoni was out of two ODIs against Ireland and South Africa in Belfast in 2007 due to viral fever.

Meanwhile, Kane Williamson has opted to bat first after winning the toss in the ongoing third ODI between India and New Zealand.
