Indian National Cricket team bowlers once again bounced back in style after a century-plus stand from Ross Taylor and Tom Latham to have New Zealand at 243 runs at the end of the fifty overs in the third ODI at the Bay Oval.

Meanwhile, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first on a flat wicket. While India went in with two changes bringing in Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya in place of MS Dhoni and Vijay Shankar, the Kiwis brought in Mitchell Santner in place of Colin de Grandhomme. The new ball pair has been thoroughly successful for India in this series and it was no different today. Mohammed Shami struck in the second over to dismiss Colin Munro as New Zealand’s opening pair continues to struggle.

Struggling to tackle the swing, Martin Guptill tried to counter-attack putting Bhuvneshwar Kumar away for a six and a boundary. However, Kumar pegged back soon to dismiss Guptill to have the Kiwis at 26 for two at the end of the seventh over. Since then, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor have stitched a steady partnership keeping the Indian bowlers at bay. But Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed the big fish Williamson just when he was starting to look dangerous. It was a more of a Hardik Pandya wicket than Chahal’s as the all-rounder plucked on to a stunning catch at the mid-wicket.

India bounces back

With 59 for three, Taylor and Tom Latham added 100 runs for the fourth wicket to bail New Zealand out of dire trouble. Both the batsmen crossed their individual half-century and was in line to post a good first-innings total. But Chahal once again stood up to break the partnership to dismiss Latham. This was the beginning of a collapse as two quick strikes from Pandya put the Kiwis on 198 for 6 in 42 overs.

Meanwhile, the Balck Caps pinned all their hopes on Taylor who came into this series on the back of some big scores. Taylor continued to score runs from but eventually holed out to Dinesh Karthik off Mohammed Shami seven short of another century as New Zealand found themselves at 222 for seven in the 46th over.
