Chandigarh, January 28

Punjab bowlers struck in unison to bowl out Gujarat for 240 runs in their second innings and help the visitors register an innings 42 run win over the hosts on the third and penultimate day of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy semifinal match at Sardar Patel Stadium in Valsad on Monday.

In the final, Punjab will face the winner of the semifinal match between Benagl and Vidarbha, which is going on at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Resuming the day at 37/3, Rahul V Shah and MA Hingrajia batted sensibly and added 142 runs to the overnight total before a needless run out saw the end of Shah.

Shah, who was unbeaten on seven yesterday, faced 182 balls for his 76 and was involved in a 163-run partnership with Hingrajia.

Six runs later, Sanvir Singh removed Hingrajia to reduce the hosts to 185/5. Hingrajia made 87 off 144 balls before holding out to Ramandeep Singh.

With both the set batsmen back in the hut, Gujarat lost their remaining five wickets for just 55 runs to fold up their innings on 240.

KB Panchal made run-a-ball 19 before becoming Sanvir’s second victim of the day, while YD Gardharia fell to Harpreet Brar on 27.

Off-spinner Akul Pandove consumed Tejas R Patel (1) before dismissing Jayveer Sinh on 11. KR Patel was the last wicket to fall in the Gujarat innings, caught by Himanshu Sharma off Brar on two. SA Desai remained not out on naught.

Arshdeep Singh (2/46), Pandove (2/77), Brar (2/53) and Sanvir (2/16) claimed two wickets each for Punjab, while Ikjot Singh Thind bagged 1/29.

Earlier, Punjab rode on Ramandeep Singh’s run-a-ball 138 to score 447 runs in reply to Gujarat’s first innings total of 165.
