Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul suspension lifted with immediate effect; probe still on
New Delhi: Cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul’s suspension for their sexist remarks during the Koffee with Karan show has been lifted pending appointment of an ombudsman. Pandya is likely to join the Indian team in New Zealand after an interim relief.
A press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India said: “The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the Learned Amicus Curiae, Mr. P.S. Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI Ombudsman.”
There was a furor on social media after Koffee with Karan aired on January 6.
Pandya had apolgised to his fans on social media and even said sorry to his teams. He replied to a show cause notice by CoA but that did not cut much ice with the administrators.
The cricketers are drawing intense flak on social media and the cricketing community has taken strong reservation over their sexist remarks.
The two cricketers were omitted from the Australia and New Zealand tour after the controversy.
